Colette's Southern Counties Show at Farming World

These are Colette's shows at their best. A lovely setting, great weather, plenty of entries and a relaxed & friendly atmosphere. Ok, the ground was a bit slippery but hey, nothing's perfect. This is a great opportunity to give some feedback on your day out so use the comment button below and let's hear what you thought of the show (and the photos).

The ridden showing judge was a disgrace to this show - through all classes she clearly had no idea of 'type', conformation, expected way of going, turnout requirements etc. Her manner and attitude towards the competitors was frankly shocking - to tell a 13year old girl riding a 4 yr old horse in the novice class (his and her first show together to get some miles on the clock before going affiliated next season) that 'they shouldn't be in the ring' (the pony put one buck in!!!) which demoralised the girl and she left the ring in tears - the judge should be ashamed of herself ok if you feel the pony didnt go well enough fair enough but what happend to words of encouragement??!! For a show that hails itself the family show this is titally disgusting!!
However the in-hand judge was fair, knowledgeable and pleasant - a credit to the show

Show was excellent although we all got burnt. Photographs were great, another one to add to my collection. Where will the rider of the show photos potentially get published ?

Photos are syndicated to (and in no particular order) Local Rider, South East Rider, Pegasus, Hoofbeat, Equi-ads & Country Market. Whether they are published is not under my control.

f.a.o Hardy,
Perhaps we attended different shows?? In my years of judging I have never given any competitor a bad comment. How more encouraging could I be than to allow competitors that had come off to continue, horses that were playing up to be schooled through it? Would you get that at other shows?
I am well aware that I cannot please everyone every time. No judge can. You only have to look on the horse chat forums to see virtually every judge (affiliated at every level) being torn to shreds for an alledged 'wrong decision'.
I am sure that Colette would welcome you should you want to judge, after all it is extremely difficult to get judges these days.
To every one else, many thanks for your kind words. Thank you to all those that took the trouble to thank me, and those that appreciated my words of help and encouragement on the day. And thank you to those of you that have been in touch since.

In response to the comment posted by HARDY on 6th July>>>
Thank you for making us (Colette's Horse Shows) aware of this issue in the show ring, which we have discussed with the judge. We do pride ourselves on running friendly, family shows (particularly for children) and therefore take comments such as this very seriously. We do have a
'comments book' and always welcome anyone's comments (good and bad).

The show in question received very positive feedback - the only negative thing seemed to be the hard ground following a long spell of hot, dry weather. It is therefore very sad to hear that you did not enjoy the event,
but please be assured that your comment has received our fullest attention.

In the meantime I would like to assure you that this particular judge has judged for a number of years in Kent and Essex and shows her own horses at county level, so we were satisfied that she had the required experience and therefore asked her to judge at our Farming World event. She has judged for
us on many occasions and has received very kind comments previously.

If you would like to discuss this with me personally or receive any comment from the judge herself, please could you kindly e-mail me directly and I will be only too pleased to hear from you. I am very keen to resolve this issue with you as we do not like to think that anyone has left the show unhappy. My e-mail: cbequine@btinternet.com

Both myself and my friend were in the ridden novice class and have to totally disagree with what you have said Hardy. At least we thought we were in the same class as we dont recall any of this actually happening!! The judge was very polite and very encouraging and gave us both lovely comments, despite not doing very well!!
I find such a rude attack on the judge totally uncalled for.
I would happily attend Colette's shows again.
